Each year, as the bigger children move on to Primary School, we ask their parents to give us some comments on how they think we've done.
Below, you'll find all the comments we received this year. There are also links to all the comments from previous years.

We believe you should see ALL our comments, good or bad, so we don't 'edit out' anything.

We are always VERY pleased to hear all the extremely positive comments from our parents - it makes us feel very proud !

My son has so enjoyed his time with you, and as his Mum I have always felt extremely comfortable leaving him in your care. I have always been impressed, and felt safe in the knowledge that he will always receive a cuddle should he need it, plus constant encouragement in achieving new tasks, as well as a disciplined structure to his day, which has really benefitted him.
We really feel you have done a good job preparing him for school, and are amazed at how much he has learnt. He recognises all his letters, which is amazing. Not only this, but we have been continually amazed by the stream of artwork which has passed through our door over the last 2 years. It is clear that he is not just left to his own devices, as in many nurseries, but has been encouraged and given structured support and clear goals to work towards.
We really feel as though you have nurtured every aspect of his character, and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the amazing work you have done, whilst still making it so much fun!
In addition, I think your main strength is the wonderful team of teachers. You are all so enthusiastic and caring!
We have been 100% satisfied with everything, and really don’t think you need to improve anything! My son loves you all, and talks about you constantly at home.
K. Knight.

The Alphabet Train is a fantastic nursery. Staff are very approachable, and Amy is very quick to reply to e-mails regarding any queries. Children have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities, as well as meeting visiting pets and animals. Parents are well informed about events, routines, themes, etc.
The only area for improvement could be the website, which is not always kept up to date with the latest information.
We would like to thank Amy and all the staff. Our daughter has made so much progress in 2 years. She has always enjoyed coming to nursery, and has especially enjoyed Sports Day, the trip to Drusilla’s, going to the Park, cooking, and dressing up! We feel that the amount of free play and structured activities offered is right. She has been able to learn about shapes, colours, patterns, and animals through structured activities, and developed her social skills through free play.
We will be sending her sister to The Alphabet Train, as she has always been happy there. She will miss everybody!

Completely happy, and always amazed at the new and creative activities that you come up with – such energy! The children so obviously have such respect and affection for you all – I don’t know how you do it! Couldn’t think of a better place for him to have been for the past year and a half, and wish he could stay another year. Hard to see what you could do to improve! You are all so motivated, and this rubs off on my son. He has enjoyed the whole experience.

The Alphabet Train’s strengths are it’s child focused, motivational, educational and happy environment, and it’s varied, age appropriate curriculum. It reinforces expectations of good manners and polite behaviour. My daughter will miss the warm, friendly environment, where she has made a lot of happy memories. You are all great!
The only weaknesses are the stairs, and the lack of air conditioning!
R. Colling

I have always been happy in the knowledge that all my children have been cared for in a safe, loving, stimulating and colourful environment. You have always been professional in your day-to-day running of the nursery, but at the same time have cared for the children in a loving manner!
We could not have asked for a better start for our 3 children, and would like to say a HUGE “thankyou” for the last 6 years. Keep up the excellent work!

We have felt that with both our sons you have provided the right balance between fun and education. We could not have wished for a better grounding and preparation for school. We think you succeed in every way. You are such a well run nursery. Thank you so much. We’ll miss you lots!
C. Couchman

I think The Alphabet Train is a fantastic pre-school. I have been more than happy with every aspect, and my son has been very happy there. I have been very impressed with all the themes, and all the things my son has made to do with them. He is very sad to leave everyone. Thank you for looking after him so well for the past two and a half years.
J. Cooper

The Alphabet Train has a lovely atmosphere, and all the children seem very happy. My daughter has enjoyed all the themes, especially learning about animals.
The only weaknesses are the lack of space, although the children have everything they need to learn and more, and a bit more feedback about my daughter’s behaviour would have been nice.

Our son has been given a lot of care and attention at The Alphabet Train. We have had no regrets whatsoever about his nursery. We’ve loved seeing him flourish, and so happy when we pick him up. The nursery is well thought out and structured, but I would have liked more feedback about his progress.
A. Richter

Our son attended The Alphabet Train for 2 years, and has benefitted greatly from the experience. He loved the theme each term, and was particularly captivated by “Space”. He is now ready for, and excited about, going to school.
This is an excellent pre-school, where children can be confidently left with friendly and capable staff, to grow, learn, make friends, and get prepared for the years ahead.

Our Comments - July 2009

We assume, from the comment about lack of space, that this must refer to our lack of outdoor space, since the hall is really quite large! Although we would love to have an outside area, there really isn’t anywhere to make one. We do go to the Park as often as we can, weather permitting, and, since the opening of the new playground there in 2007, the children have lots of freedom and choice as to how they let off steam with their friends, whilst developing their skills in a safe and supervised area, getting lots of fresh air!

Unfortunately, we do not have air conditioning! We are, however, going to trial the use of mobile air conditioning units, to see whether they are capable of cooling the air in such a large area during a heat wave.  Because our hall has so many windows, through which the sun shines for most of the day, it does feel like a greenhouse if the weather is hot. Of course, by the same token, this does make the hall very light and airy during the majority of the year, and helps keep us all warm in the Winter. A mixed blessing!

As with the lack of an outside area, being upstairs is another thing about which we can do very little! We do appreciate that if parents have younger children in prams or pushchairs, it is very difficult to drop off and collect without it turning into a major operation. To try to help with this problem, we are always willing to help out if a parent sends a message via another parent, or calls on the mobile ‘phone. One of us will then come down to either collect or drop off, or stay with the younger ones while the parent takes their child in themselves.

With regard to the comments about more feedback from us about children’s progress and behaviour, we feel concerned. All parents are welcomed and encouraged to discuss any worries or concerns about their child at any time. Likewise, if we have any concerns about a child, or indeed, if we have any behaviour or achievement to celebrate with parents, we do so freely, on a daily basis. Parents are also encouraged to share achievements, by writing in their child’s Tracker book, which is kept in each child’s tray, and by chatting informally with staff. Alternatively, parents are very welcome to discuss their child’s progress with Amy, either after drop-off, or by e-mail, anytime.

The website was created for us, and is maintained, by Steven, who does so voluntarily in his spare time. He is generally very efficient, but can sometimes get a little behind if his workload is too great! He will do his best to keep it updated from now on!

Thanks to everyone who took the time to comment on The Alphabet Train, and for the lovely things so many of you have said. We all do our best for your children, so it’s nice to be appreciated.
We will continue to try to improve our provision, and welcome your comments and suggestions in the future.
Amy, Ann, Helen, Victoria and Laura.
